Tuesday Morning Core Classes

This morning we woke up at 6:45 a.m. to get our day started.  We went to a beautiful flag ceremony overlooking the sun reflecting off Mt. Evans.  We had a great breakfast of french toast and sausage, then we got to go off to our morning IC (intern connection).  The interns host some great learning activities for 30 minutes while the teachers, high school leaders, and Mt. Evans staff have a morning meeting to discuss the plans for the day ahead.

At 9:30 we had our first core class!  Students participated in geosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, forces and motion, navigation, or initiatives.  Everyone will partake in each of these classes throughout the week.  I (Miss Zimmerman) am teaching Geosphere, and I spent the morning with the Pronghorns.  We started at "base camp", and hiked up to some beautiful overlooks around the Mt. Evans property.  As we hiked we learned about weather, erosion, deposition, as well as the different kinds of rock formations.  We learned the difference between an outcrop and boulder, and we also saw some wild turkey and coyote tracks.

Mrs. Yelton is teaching biosphere, and she was kind enough to share some of her pictures with me.  Here are some pictures from the morning of our core class time:
