We are all VERY tired after our long day today. We just got back from our Astronomy Evening Program. We had a beautiful, clear night, with a full moon to do some star gazing and talk about planets and constellations. We went up and looked at Jupiter and a nebula in some powerful telescopes that they have set up here. We learned some interesting stories about the constellations, like Pegasus was Poseidon's tribute to Medusa. And, we heard some very cool facts about the planets... We've gotten 3 different counts on Jupiter's moons... we've heard there are anywhere between 60 and 70 of them. Any parents have a correct count?
The kids are having a great time and had lights out at 10 p.m. So far no phone calls to come up to the cabins, so we are on a good track.
Here are a few more pictures from our day:
I thought of you all last night when I saw the moon. What a great night to have astronomy! Can't wait to see you on Wednesday. Stay warm!

ReplyDeleteGood Morning Colorow Students & Staff,
ReplyDeleteSo glad you arrived safely. I hope you had a warm & restful night's sleep. I bet it is beautiful up there with the snow on the trees. It is snowing here at school & is 19 degrees outside. I look forward to hearing all about today's adventures on your blog site.
Mrs. Robin
I believe Jupiter has 67 moons.
ReplyDeleteDoes anybody know the name of the largest moon. Hint: it is bigger than the planet Mercury and has its own magnetic field.
ReplyDeleteHow do they wake you all up?
ReplyDelete67 moons, thanks for the update! Ganymede is the largest moon, but I admit, I googled it. Thanks for the trivia!
ReplyDeleteAnd, Madison, they wake us up with a song each morning over the intercom. The first day it was Lion King, but they pick a new one every day.
